Medical Technologist

Medical Technologists are responsible for performing chemical, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological diagnostic analyses on body fluids.  Some job duties include:  collecting body fluids and other specimens, performing a variety of analyses such as urinalysis, complete blood counts, and pregnancy tests, verifying analysis results and reporting findings to clinicians, performing and reviewing quality controls in testing, keeping inventory of supplies used in the laboratory, and preparing specimens for storage.  Medical technologists must complete a minimum of a two to four year degree in which leads to a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science.  They must also be certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology or the American Medical Technologists.
